The high density of macromolecules at super-enhancers causes phase separation. Phase separation is proposed as the mechanism by which transcription factors, co-activators, and enhancer RNAs are condensed in clustered enhancers (super-enhancers, SEs) with highly acetylated nucleosomes in transcription activation. The figure depicts phase separation of phosphorylated RNA-polymerase II condensates mediated by promoter-associated RNAs and their binding proteins in transcription activation
