B Western blot analysis of 3 independent LV tissue lysates from control and diabetic rats with or without AKG treatment. Blots were probed with DNMT1, DNMT3A, DNMT3B, MBD2, TET1, and MeCP2 antibodies. Vinculin was used as a loading control. Densitometric analysis of western blot data is shown in the Additional file 1: Fig. S4. The results are represented as mean ± SD, Statistical significance was determined by Student’s unpaired t-test for real-time PCR, where *p < 0.05, ***p < 0.0002, ****p < 0.0001 with respect to control
