TGFβ1 treatment phosphorylates and activates the SMAD complex, thereby increasing transcription and the protein level of histone H3.3. The subsequent nucleosome incorporation of H3.3 may facilitate a dynamic chromatin environment that allows for further recruitment of histone H1.4/H1.5 variants, and the interaction with H3K27me3 for nuclear deformation and NE rupture
