Average displacement of a chromosome locus from simulation and experiment [31]. By matching just one model parameter to experiment, simulation reproduces the complexity of experimental diffusive motion of non-polytene interphase chromosomes in the nucleus. Trivial unconfined diffusive motion would correspond to a straight line ∆r2 = 6Dt. Error bars on simulation show the range of motion from n = 8 independent trajectories.
